What Happens During a Typical Day at Dog Daycare?

March 20, 20263 min read

If you’ve never used dog daycare before, it’s natural to wonder what your dog actually does all day. Do they play the entire time? Do they rest? Are they supervised?

At The Beast Boutique, every day is structured to balance play, exercise, rest, and enrichment so dogs stay happy, safe, and mentally fulfilled.

Here’s what a typical day looks like.

Arrival and Morning Free Play

The day begins with arrivals and a period of supervised free play.

Dogs greet their friends, stretch their legs, and burn off that early burst of excitement. Because our groups are intentionally kept small, staff are able to closely supervise interactions and make sure everyone is playing safely.

Unlike many facilities, dogs at The Beast Boutique are never left unsupervised.

Our staff-to-dog ratio is 1 handler for every 6 dogs, which allows us to actively monitor play and step in when needed.

Off-Leash Adventure Time

One of the biggest surprises for many new clients is that off-leash adventures are included in daycare.

During these outings, dogs get the chance to explore, sniff, run, and engage with the environment in ways they simply can’t indoors. These adventures provide:

For many dogs, this outdoor adventure becomes the highlight of their day.

Midday Rest and Lunch

Just like kids at school, dogs need breaks.

After the morning activity, dogs settle in for nap time. Rest is important because constant stimulation can actually lead to stress or over-arousal.

Most dogs relax naturally on their beds or the floor. Crates are only used when a dog is having difficulty settling, helping them decompress and relax.

If your dog requires lunch or medication during the day, we’re happy to accommodate that as part of their routine.

Optional Enrichment Activities

For dogs who enjoy extra mental challenges, we offer optional enrichment add-ons such as:

  • Sniffy walks

  • Puzzle games

  • Long-lasting chew time

These activities are designed to engage a dog’s brain and provide calm, focused stimulation.

Afternoon Play and Wind-Down

After their rest period, dogs enjoy another round of supervised play before heading home.

Because the groups are small and staff remain actively involved throughout the day, we get to know each dog’s personality, play style, and comfort level.

This helps us ensure that every dog is having a positive experience.

Real Daycare Transformation: Building Confidence

One of the most rewarding parts of daycare is watching dogs grow.

When A first started daycare, he was extremely nervous. On his first day, he sat alone in a corner, too scared to interact, and even urinated out of stress.

With consistency, patience, and supportive handling, his confidence slowly grew.

After about a month, A began approaching staff for attention and cautiously interacting with other dogs. Today, he arrives excited, plays confidently with the group, and proudly shows off his playful personality every week.

Watching dogs develop confidence like this is one of the greatest joys of our work.

How Dogs Benefit from Regular Daycare

Dogs who attend daycare regularly often experience noticeable improvements, including:

  • Increased confidence around other dogs

  • Better social skills

  • Improved listening and responsiveness

  • Greater physical strength and stamina

A well-run daycare environment provides both physical exercise and social learning opportunities.

Why Small Groups Make a Big Difference

At The Beast Boutique, we intentionally keep daycare groups small.

This allows us to:

  • Maintain close supervision

  • Learn each dog’s personality

  • Build relationships with the dogs in our care

When handlers truly know your dog, they can better support positive behaviour and ensure every dog feels comfortable and safe.

The Bottom Line

A good dog daycare should offer more than just a place for dogs to burn energy.

At The Beast Boutique, our goal is to create an environment where dogs can exercise, socialize, rest, and build confidence — all while being carefully supervised by staff who know them well.

And yes — those off-leash adventures are still everyone’s favourite part of the day.
